Standardization

The results are currently normed using a database of approximately 6,000 diverse student records. During the first norming, the test underwent reliability and validity analysis. Adjustments were made as needed. We also did a test/retest study and compared results to a small sample of students who took both the Gibson Test and a well-known battery that is similar in nature. There was a reasonably high correlation. We intend to do a final norming once we have obtained approximately 20,000 records, but we do not expect to see any material changes in the percentile rankings.
The Gibson Test is different in nature to standard tests done in person. The computer introduces a new variable. The following link discusses how the Gibson Test can provide different results compared to a test done in person. More information.
The Gibson Test is only designed to be used as a screening tool to identify whether weak core skills are a likely issue. If a diagnosis is required, you will need to have the student tested by a qualified professional.
In most cases, the results provide by the Gibson Test are sufficient to indicate whether weak skills are indeed an issue. With this knowledge you can take appropriate steps to strengthen weak skills and unlock a student’s learning potential. Next Steps.
