Why do some students underperform while others succeed?
Despite our nation’s best efforts, far too many children are not succeeding academically. There are many factors that impact learning. Most reform efforts focus on teaching elements, such as teacher certification, incentive pay, curriculum, standardized testing, etc. It seems that education success is primarily based upon teaching effectiveness. What about the role of students?
Education = Teaching x Learning Ability
If a student is only 50% effective at learning and teaching is 100% effective, education will only be 50% effective. Knowing a student’s learning ability profile can be an effective tool to improving education success.
Schools
RTI Tool
Schools know from testing which students are not succeeding academically. However, academic test results generally do not explain why a student struggles with learning.
The Gibson Test complements tier 1 and tier 2 RTI processes. Now schools can have a better guide for interventions.
Testing is affordable, fast and easy
Cognitive skill testing historically has been resource intensive and expensive. Only a small percentage of students could be tested for IEPs. Now every student can be tested.
